My dad's obituary (submitted this evening):
Walter Makar, 63, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010. He was born July 2, 1946 in Germany and lived his adolescent years in Blackstone, MA and then Berlin, MA for 32 years before moving to this area in November 2005.
Walter graduated from Blackstone HS, Johnson and Wales College and was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the US Air Force. He worked as a Cost Accountant for Dynisco Corp for over 28 years. While in MA, Walter was a member of the Berlin Lions Club, American Legion, Elks and a Boy Scout volunteer. He was Lions District 33-A Governor in 1994-5 and was on many Lions committees in the District and State. In FL, he was a member and officer in the Englewood Lions Club, Gulf Cove Fishing Club, and Holiday Estates Bowling League. He also was a member of the Rotunda Elks Club. Walter was known for his quick wit, finding humor in everything and “Tweety Bird”. He loved to go fishing and clamming and spending summers at Cape Cod.
Walter will be greatly missed by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann (Haczynski), daughter Julie (Tim) Tetreault of Blackstone, MA, son David (Arjan) of Dryden, NY, mother Anna of Blackstone, MA, brother Josef (Susan) of Blackstone, MA, sister Maria (Catello) Scarano of North Smithfield, RI and nieces and nephews. His father, Stefan, predeceased him.
He will be missed by his many friends, in-laws and “the cousins”.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 at St. Maximilian-Kolbe, 1441 Spear St, Port Charlotte, FL and at a later date in MA.
